2020 Open Enrollment

Welcome to Open Enrollment 2020!

Open enrollment is an opportunity for all benefits eligible employees to enroll in or make changes to their benefits for the upcoming year. The open enrollment period will begin October 14, 2019 and end November 8, 2019. We're excited to announce Blue Cross Blue Shield  of Louisiana (BCBSLA) will replace United Healthcare as our medical plan administrator. In addition, we are now offering a third health plan option called High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with an attached Health Savings Account (HSA) for more plan options to meet your individual health needs. Please visit the Getting to Know the HDHP & HSA page for more information.

Open enrollment is passive this year, which means if you do not make any changes, you will remain in the same coverages for 2020.

Remember! Open Enrollment is Your Chance To:

  • Change, elect, add dependents, or drop medical, dental, vision, Healthcare Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and life insurance coverage.
  • Update beneficiary information.
  • Update personal contact information for self and dependents including address, dates of birth, social security numbers, etc.
  • Benefits elections and changes cannot be made outside of the open enrollment period unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).
  • Contribute to Healthcare Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and/or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DFSA). Don't forget, 2019 FSA elections do not carry over to 2020, so you must re-enroll.
What's Changing in 2020?
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana (BCBSLA) will replace United Healthcare as our medical administrator.
  • COBRA, FSA, and HRA benefits will be administered through BCBSLA in partnership with Accrue Health as well.
  • We will be offering a third health plan option called High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with an attached Health Savings Account (HSA).
  • The HRA and POS medical plans will remain in place with:
    • Enhanced prescription drug coverage for both plans: no separate prescription drug deductibles and lower copays.
    • Lower specialist office visit copay on the POS plan.
    • Rates are increasing by 5% on both plans.
  • Employee premium contributions will continue to be based on four salary bands but have been adjusted for 2020 with a shift in the third and fourth bands. See 2020 Rates for more details.
  • Dental rates are decreasing by 4.6% for both the high and low plans.
  • Vision rates are decreasing by 7.3% with an increase in the allowance for contact lenses and $0 out-of-pocket expense for any frames at Target Optical or Sears Optical.

  • Healthcare Flexible Savings Account (HFSA) limit is increasing to $2,700.
  • New Wellness Incentive Program that will benefit all three plans.
  • The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) will now be administered through BCBSLA in partnership with New Directions.

  • Dec. 31: 2019 Plan year and HFSA/DFSA contributions ends

Thinking About Your Retirement Elections?

Planning for your financial security is as important to your overall wellbeing as your health benefits. Although you can make changes to your retirement elections throughout the year, annual open enrollment often inspires many to update their annual contributions.

If you plan to make changes to your retirement elections for 2020, the best time to do this is beginning December 20, 2019 if you are paid on a bi-weekly basis and January 1, 2020 if you are paid on a monthly basis to align with the first pay periods in 2020. Why? If you change your elections before these dates, the dollar amount you elect will be applied immediately to the remainder of 2019 instead of beginning in January of 2020.
