How to Enroll - Tax Deferred Annuity (TDA) Plan

The Tax Deferred Annuity (TDA) plan is a 403(b), employee funded retirement plan. All employees are eligible to participate in the Tax Deferred Annuity on day one of employment. Contributions are made by you and deducted from your paycheck. There are two steps to enroll in the TDA plan.  

Step #1: Establish an account with either Fidelity Investments or TIAA-CREF

To establish an account with Fidelity: 

  • Go to enrollonline.fidelity.com
  • Type in the plan's identification number, 54695, and your Social Security number.
  • Follow the prompts to create a customer number (other than your Social Security number) and PIN.
  • Go to netbenefits.fidelity.com and establish an investment allocation in NetBenefits.
  • Select "Beneficiaries" in the "My Profile" section.
  • Designate your beneficiary(ies) for your 403(b) account at Fidelity and receive instant online confirmation.

To establish an account with TIAA-CREF:

  • To enroll with TIAA-CREF, go to tiaa-cref.org/tulane
  • Click on "Enroll Now."
  • If you are newly enrolling with TIAA-CREF, register first by selecting "Register with TIAA-CREF" under the heading "Ready to get started."
  • If you are already registered with TIAA-CREF, enter your user id in the log in section and proceed with the enrollment process for Tulane University Retirement Plans.
  • Once you are logged in, select the plan you want to enroll – "Tulane University Tax Deferral Plan."
  • Follow the prompts to complete the enrollment.

Step #2: Login to HCM Employee Self-Service via Gibson Online to enter the amount you would like to contribute.

  • Login to Gibson Online using your Tulane username and password.
  • Under the Faculty or Staff tab, select "HCM Self-Service."
  • Enter your single sign-on username and password (Tulane username and password).
  • Under "Tulane Employee Self-Service" link click on "Benefits."
  • Accept the Legal Disclaimer and select "Next."
  • Review your Dependents and Beneficiaries and select "Next."
  • Select the appropriate program. In this case, select "TU Retirement" and select "Next."
  • To enter your 2019 retirement contributions, click on "Update Benefits."
  • For the TDA or 457(b) plan enter your annual contribution for 2019 under the "Coverage" field. Remember, any changes are made in real time and will be effective for the current pay period. For TDA the maximum contribution is $19,000 for those under age 50 and $25,000 for those ages 50 and over. The chart below explains how contributions are calculated in HCM. 
  • Click "Recalculate" to see your new "Pre-Tax" contributions per pay period.
  • If you agree with the amounts shown under the "Pre-Tax" and "Annual Cost" fields, click "Accept." If not, repeat steps 10 and 11.
  • Click "Confirmation Statement" either to save a PDF copy or to print a confirmation.
  • Print the "Salary and Tax Deferral Agreement."
  • Click "Finish" to complete your retirement updates.
  • Click "Logout" located on the top right corner of the screen to exit HCM Self-Service. 
  • Click under your name on the top right corner of the screen then select "Sign Out" to exit Gibson Online.
