Open Enrollment 2019

Welcome to Open Enrollment 2019!

Tulane's Open Enrollment period is an opportunity for all benefits-eligible employees to enroll in or make changes to their benefits for the upcoming year. The Open Enrollment period will begin October 11, 2018 and end November 2, 2018.

This year's Open Enrollment is passive, which means if you do not make any changes you will remain in the same coverages for 2019.

Remember! Open Enrollment is Your Chance To:

  • Change, elect, add dependents, or drop medical, dental, vision, FSA, and life insurance coverage.
  • Update beneficiary information.
  • Update personal contact information for self and dependents including address, dates of birth, social security numbers, etc.
  • Benefits elections and changes cannot be made outside of the Open Enrollment period unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).
  • Contribute to Healthcare Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and/or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DFSA). Don't forget, 2018 FSA elections do not carry over to 2019, so you must re-enroll.
What's Changing in 2019?
  • Minimal premium increase for medical plan rates of approximately 4%, which is below the national average trend.
  • Employee premium contributions are based on four annual pay ranges. The lowest annual pay range will now include employees with annual pay less than $50,000, which means 1,100 employees making between $35,000 - $50,000 annually will see a reduction in medical premiums.
  • Life Insurance and Long-Term Disability (LTD) rates are decreasing.
  • Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA) limit is increasing to $2,650.
  • TUMG LTD carrier changing to The Standard.

Thinking About Your Retirement Elections?

Planning for your financial security is as important to your overall wellbeing as your health benefits. Although you can make changes to your retirement elections throughout the year, annual open enrollment often inspires many to update their annual contributions.

If you plan to make changes to your retirement elections for 2019, the best time to do this is beginning December 21, 2018 if you are paid on a bi-weekly basis and January 1, 2019 if you are paid on a monthly basis to align with the first pay periods in 2019. Why? If you change your elections before these dates, the dollar amount you elect will be applied immediately to the remainder of 2018 instead of beginning in January of 2019.
