The purpose of this reminder is to share an overview of the changes that are taking place and to provide resources to help you make your elections before November 8. We would also have two additional information sessions this week that you can attend to ask questions in person.

Overview of changes this year:

  • The university has selected Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana (BCBSLA) as our new medical plan administrative services provider for 2020.
  • 98% of the medical providers utilized by our employees will continue to be in-network.
  • BCBSLA will work with Tulane  employees in the midst of a treatment plan to ensure a transition of care plan so care is not interrupted.
  • We are adding a third health plan option, a high deductible health plan paired with a health savings account. This third option provides increased ownership and flexibility for managing healthcare expenses.
  • While overall medical rates are increasing by 5%, we have taken additional steps to align our benefits programs with the staff compensation structure.  Starting in January, the salary bands for benefits premiums will be shifting, resulting in lower premiums for hundreds of employees.  Rates will also decrease for dental and vision insurance.

Information Sessions

  • Wednesday, October 30: 3:00 – 4:00 PM at the Lavin-Bernick Center, Stibbs Conference Room
  • Thursday, October 31: 3:00 – 4:00 PM at the Lavin-Bernick Center, Race Conference Room

If you are unable to attend, you may access a recorded session.  More information may be found on the 2020 Open Enrollment website, which includes a digital Open Enrollment Guide.  A printed version was mailed to home addresses.

If you have any questions about the new health plan, please email 2020healthplans@tulane.edu.
