Nearly 400 university employees gathered at the annual Unified Recognition Event, held on Friday, April 6, at the Roosevelt Hotel to celebrate milestone anniversaries, and honored recipients of the President’s Staff Excellence and Departmental/Team Awards recipients. In addition, the event also included recognition of Student Employee and Student Supervisor of the Year, and acknowledged two new initiatives introduced this year – the New Hire Buddy Program and the Lean Six Sigma Program. 

Here is a summary of stats from the group of employees that were honored:

• In 2017, the university had 381 employees that reached a milestone anniversary in their years of service with Tulane.
  • This ranged from 5 – 45 years of service.
  • This represents 4,560 combined years of service!
    
     
• Last year, we changed the way we hold the event by bringing campuses together to celebrate additional accomplishments.  So again this year we continued to recognize:
  • 10 President’s Staff Excellence Award recipients
  • 2 President’s Departmental/Team Excellence Award recipients
    
     
• This year, the event grew even further by including recognition of achievements in the area of Student Employment by recognizing:
  • 1 Student Employee of the Year Award – Melody Haskell
  • 1 Student Supervisor of the Year Award – Meredith Krall 

Our 45-year recipient was Sheila Favalora, senior program manager for academics at the Payson Graduate Program in Global Development. 



“I am very fortunate to have worked at Tulane,” said Favalora. “For the past 20 years, I have worked with students in an academic program, and this, by far, has been the best experience. They keep me challenged and young!”

The event’s 40-years recipients were: 

• Edmund Heigle, Material Management
• Marjorie McCants, Center for Stem Cell Research & Regenerative Medicine
• Jane Rushing, Student Programs Administration
• Robert Turner, Real Estate

The event included live music, an assortment of “fun-facts” from yesteryears and a luncheon with presentations by President Fitts, Patrick Norton, Sr. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Shantay Bolton, Vice President of Human Resources, and Renee Sneed, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources.



“This university is all about people. The people in this room are what make us great and are part of the university’s magic and culture,” added Tulane President Mike Fitts.

The event concluded with a very enthusiastic “Roll Wave” chant and a revived spirit by event attendees to Tulane’s mission, vision and motto: Non Sibi, Sed Suis “Not for one’s self, but for one’s own.”
