Overview
Any pregnant employee is allowed time off required by pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions and leave will be granted upon request to any pregnant employee on account of pregnancy for a reasonable period of time. "Reasonable period of time" means that period during which the female employee is medically disabled on account of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions.
Pregnancy leave will run concurrently with Family and Medical leave and Parental leave.
You will have 30 days from the actual birth to add your newborn to your benefits. For assistance, contact the Benefits Team at leaverequest@tulane.edu.
The standard period of Pregnancy leave is six weeks. In the event that you are physically unable to work beyond six weeks of absence, you must request an extension of Pregnancy leave from the Office of Human Resources in writing. Medical documentation will be required to support the medical extension.
Pregnancy leave will not exceed four months and will be provided to employees during the time they are medically disabled on account of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions, although Family and Medical leave may overlap Pregnancy leave.
A set of Certification of Healthcare Provider forms will be provided for completion by your medical provider to support the leave.
When you return to work, you must submit a medical certification of fitness to return to work from your doctor to the Leave Coordinator promptly. The medical certification is necessary before your leave status can be updated within the payroll system.
Employees cannot return to working without a medical clearance.
You are to submit a Leave Request form at least 30 days is advance of the expected date of birth. However, if you are experiencing pregnancy related illnesses, please submit the request at that time.
