What is L&OD?

What is Learning & Organizational Development?

Learning and Organizational Development (L&OD) builds the knowledge, skills, and abilities of a workforce by helping them develop and achieve their potential so that the organizations they work for can succeed and grow.

Tulane University's  most valuable resource is its people; accordingly, the University recognizes the importance of providing professional development and training opportunities to all of its employees. Professional development opportunities enhance employees’ skills and abilities for improved performance within their current positions and for career advancement within the institution.

Through structured leadership and professional development experiences, we intend to focus on enhancing competencies and behaviors needed to support University goals to provide impactful teaching, meaningful learning opportunities for students and research breakthroughs that change the world.  Together, we can create a more satisfying place to work with a renewed commitment to Tulane’s mission of creating, communicating and conserving knowledge in order to enrich the capacity of individuals, organizations and communities to think, learn, act, and lead with integrity and wisdom.

Why is it important?

L&OD fosters a learning culture where employees are engaged in continuous learning. It  facilitates this learning by delivering talent and organizational development strategies and services focused on motivating, engaging, and educating a committed and high-performing workforce. Just as individuals must play a role in shaping their own professional careers, organizations and leaders must provide opportunities for their employees to develop new skills and knowledge.  We strive to influence and positively impact the productivity and achievements across our community, recognizing that the faculty and staff of today will cultivate world-class learning experiences for the students of tomorrow.

The L&OD team will be charged with providing holistic learning and development opportunities at all levels of the University.
