Spring 2025 Tuition Waivers Open: November 4, 2024
Deadline to Submit: January 21, 2025

Tuition Waivers, Affidavits for Graduate School Tuition Tax Exemption, and Extended Tuition Waivers must be submitted every semester and only for the current semester. Proof of Dependency is also required each semester for dependents. View the complete tuition waiver schedule here.

Forms submitted after the deadline will require approval through the Appeal Process.
 

Tuition Waiver Program Overview

The Tuition Waiver Program allows full-time Tulane employees and their dependents to continue their education at Tulane. Each semester, eligible employees and dependents can receive tuition exemption by completing the Tuition Waiver Form.

Key Details:

  • Waivers apply to tuition only; associated fees (e.g., technology or application fees) are not covered.
  • Dependents are eligible for undergraduate courses only.
  • Proof of Dependency must be submitted every semester.
     

Affidavit of Qualification for Graduate School Tuition Tax Exemption

To waive taxes on tuition for graduate courses, employees must meet specific requirements:

  1. The course must relate to your current job or fulfill a bona fide business need.
  2. You must complete the Affidavit of Qualification for Tax Exemption and submit it, along with a signed job description, to TUBenefits@tulane.edu.

Submission Process:

  • Complete the Tuition Waiver in Gibson Self-Service.
  • Email the affidavit and job description signed by both you and your supervisor.
  • Forms must be submitted by the Tuition Waiver deadline for each semester.
     

How to Submit a Tuition Waiver

Important Note:
Before using the tuition waiver, individuals must first be accepted as a student and enrolled in classes.
 


Steps to Submit a Tuition Waiver:

  1. Enroll in an Approved Program:
    • Obtain a Banner ID and register for classes.
  2. Submit Proof of Dependency (for dependents):
    • Provide your most recent tax return with dependent information (financial details may be redacted).
  3. Complete the Tuition Waiver in Gibson Online:
    • Waivers are sent directly to Accounts Receivable for processing.
  4. Graduate Students Only:
    • Submit the Affidavit of Qualification for Tax Exemption along with a signed job description to TUBenefits@tulane.edu.

  • Requested: Waiver successfully submitted.
  • HR Approval: Documents (e.g., tax returns) are under review.
  • Approved: Waiver processed, and confirmation is sent.
  • Declined: Documents require corrections; resubmit with updates.

Additional Tuition Programs

Extended Tuition Waiver Program
This program allows former employees and their dependents to continue their education at Tulane. Eligibility is based on years of full-time service. Dependents are eligible for undergraduate programs only.

Tuition Exchange Program
Tulane participates in the National Tuition Exchange Program, allowing dependents to apply for scholarships at participating institutions.

Eligibility Guidelines

Employees: Full-time employees with a minimum of 7 months of service are eligible for two courses or six credit hours per semester.

  • Dependents: Includes spouses (legally married) and dependent children claimed on the employee’s federal tax return.

Breaks in Service: Employees remain eligible under certain conditions:

  • Involuntary Termination: Eligible if rehired within one year.
  • Voluntary Termination: Eligible if rehired within 30 days.

Appeals Process

If you miss the Tuition Waiver deadline, you may appeal under specific circumstances:

  • Submit a detailed request to TUBenefits@tulane.edu with “APPEAL” in the subject line.
  • Appeals may only be made once during your Tulane career.
