Making Changes Throughout the Year
After your initial enrollment, changes to Medical, Dental, Vision, and Flexible Spending Account benefits can only be made if you experience a Qualified Life Event (QLE). These contributions are made on a pre-tax basis, and IRS regulations limit when changes are allowed outside of annual enrollment.
Examples of Qualified Life Events include:
- Marriage or divorce
- Birth or adoption of a child
- Death of a spouse or dependent
- Your spouse starting or ending employment (affecting coverage eligibility)
- A change in employment status for you or your spouse (affecting coverage eligibility)
- Significant changes to cost or coverage
- A dependent no longer qualifying as eligible
To request a change, you must notify the Office of Human Resources within 30 days of the event and submit any required forms or documentation. Requests will be reviewed to ensure they meet IRS criteria, and only changes directly related to the QLE will be approved.
