Recipients of the Student Employee of the Year and Student Supervisor of the Year Awards were announced during the annual recognition event. These awards are presented to student workers and supervisors who have made a positive impact on the university and have demonstrated exceptional reliability, quality of work, initiative, and professionalism. 

Student Employee of the Year Award: Cameron Cooper

Cameron Cooper is an employee and intern in the department of Academic Programs in the Office of Retention and Student Success within Newcomb-Tulane College. Of the many positive qualities and accomplishments outlined by his nominators:

  • Cameron is described as a professional, kind, collegial student who lives and works with integrity and who greatly increased the capacity of the office through his commitment to his work as a student and TIDES peer mentor. 
  • Throughout his roles, Cameron has demonstrated strong dependability and initiative.  An example of this is when he led and trained a team of his peer interns during New Student Orientation week. 
  • Of the many reasons Cameron was nominated, one is due to his advocacy for those in the margins, being mindful of the varying experiences between student groups. 
  • Upon graduation, there is confidence that this person will leave Tulane a better place. 

Student Supervisor of the Year Award: Laurie Farber

The Student Supervisor of the Year award was presented to Laurie Farber. Laurie is a supervisor in Mail Services and was nominated by student employees who said:

  • Laurie greets us every morning with a smile. 
  • She reminds us to be professional while at the same time, encouraging us to have fun and enjoy our work. 
  • If we ever have any problems whether it’s personal, academic or professional I know I can always talk to her.
  • We are treated more like family than just employees and this person is the reason for the familial workplace culture.

The Student Employment Awards is a recognition initiative part of the forthcoming National Student Employment Week to take place April 8 - 12, 2019.
