Job Description

Evaluate performance as it relates to the responsibilities and duties as outlined in the job description. If you do not have a copy of your employee’s job description, contact your departmental administrator or hiring manager. If they do not have a copy, contact HR Records at HRrecords@tulane.edu.

Rating Definitions
  1. Below Expectations: Generally does not meet duties and responsibilities as outlined by the job description. Requires frequent, close supervision to ensure performance of duties. Immediate and sustained improvement required in most areas of responsibility. 
  2. Partially Meets Expectations: Performs some job duties successfully but does not yet consistently meet the full expectations of the job description. Immediate and sustained improvement required in some areas of responsibility.
  3. Meets Expectations: Performance of duties is fully satisfactory as outlined by the job description. Consistently meets and occasionally exceeds performance standards. 
  4. Exceeds Expectations: Performance of duties and responsibilities outlined by the job description is consistently superior. An exceptional contributor whose performance exceeds expectations on a consistent and sustainable basis. 
  5. Outstanding: Clearly and consistently demonstrates extraordinary and exceptional accomplishment in all major areas of responsibility. Others rarely equal performance of this caliber in similar roles. Employee achievement and contributions to the organization are of marked excellence.

Customer Focus

Anticipates, monitors, and meets the needs of customers and responds to them in an appropriate manner. Demonstrates a personal commitment to identify customers' apparent and underlying needs and continually seeks to provide the highest quality service and product to all customers.

Rating Definitions
  1. Below Expectations: Responds to customer needs when he/she has time and usually on his/her own terms. May complain about customers and exhibits little respect for or understanding of the needs and demands facing the customer.
  2. Partially Meets Expectations: Usually gets back to customers in a timely manner. Is often available to handle customer issues but avoids difficult situations.
  3. Meets Expectations: Serves as a reliable resource to the customer. Takes personal accountability for meeting customer needs.
  4. Exceeds Expectations: Consistently adds a level of service value that exceeds customer expectations. Makes him/herself available to discuss issues and answer questions when needed.
  5. Outstanding: Recognized as a "go-to" person in the department. Anticipates customer issues and questions and proactively contacts customers. Takes full responsibility for addressing and resolving customer issues and follows through to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

Initiative

Dealing with situations and issues proactively and persistently, seizing opportunities that arise.

Rating Definitions
  1. Below Expectations:  Does not begin work promptly or perform it thoroughly. Resists or ignores guidance.
  2. Partially Meets Expectations: After up-front explanation of work and expectations, requires repetitive guidance with routine work.
  3. Meets Expectations: Needs minimal direction or encouragement to complete tasks in area of responsibility.
  4. Exceeds Expectations: Properly begins work without direction. Often seeks out new projects or assignments. Carries on well with projects. Can effectively prioritize.
  5. Outstanding: A self-starter. Resourceful in any situation. Great follow-through. Consistently seeks opportunities to improve the quality of results.

Flexibility

Adapting to work effectively in ambiguous or changing situations, and with diverse individuals and groups.

Rating Definitions
  1. Below Expectations:  Refuses to adapt to change or deviate from original plans.
  2. Partially Meets Expectations: Resistant to change or deviation from original plans.
  3. Meets Expectations: Easily adapts to changing situations or expectations.
  4. Exceeds Expectations: Embraces change with a positive attitude and encourages others to do the same. 
  5. Outstanding: Inspires others to embrace change as a positive. Coaches others on how to effectively navigate change.
