Tulane University is committed to providing you with a comprehensive and competitive benefits package. You and your family have access to benefits and resources, such as quality health care coverage, an employee wellness program, tuition assistance for continuing education and help in establishing your financial future. But before you get into the Benefits offerings, let's look at few steps to assist you with your enrollment.
Prepare
- Attend or Complete New Hire Orientation
- Gather dependent(s) information i.e. Names, DOBs, SSNs
- Review Benefits Eligibility
- Benefits eligibility is determined by your standard working hours. Regular full-time/part-time employees working at least 18.75 hours or more are eligible for all benefits.
- Temporary full-time employees working at least 30 hours or more are eligible for medical insurance only.
- All benefits are effective on your date of hire.
- Review Automatic Enrollments
- Benefits eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the HRA medical plan (can be waived out), Basic Life Insurance (paid by Tulane) for yourself worth 1.5X your annual salary or up to $50,000, Basic Life Insurance (paid by Tulane) for your spouse and children in the amount of $2,000, and Long Term Disability (LTD, cannot be waived out)

Choose
- Evaluate your benefit coverage needs for you and your family
- Compare Tulane benefits to your spouse's if applicable
- Estimate out-of-pocket costs
- Review reimbursement account needs
- Tulane offers two Flexible spending accounts (Healthcare FSA and Dependent Care FSA) and a Health Savings Account (HSA)
- Make elections
- Login to Employee Self-Service with your Tulane credentials and complete your enrollments within your 30 day window.

Enroll
- Opt out of Medical Plan
- If you have coverage elsewhere you can opt out.
- Fill out the medical waiver form and send the form along with a copy of your current insurance to TUBenefits@tulalne.edu within your 30 day enrollment window.
- Add spouse and/or dependents
- While entering your dependent(s) information, make sure the relationship start date is your hire date.
- The effective date of coverage for your dependents are the same as yours.
- Elect Voluntary Life Insurance benefits and Retirement
- Tulane offers Supplemental Life Insurance for yourself, your spouse, and children
- The Retirement package is comprised types of plans include three 403b Plans and one 457b Plan. For more information, click here.
- Enter Beneficiaries
- Don't forget to designate your beneficiaries!
- Print confirmation statement
- Print and save for your files.
