Over the past year, we have been working hard to identify improvement opportunities in the quality of services and programs offered by the Office of Human Resources.  We understand the need for continuous learning to help keep pace with the rapidly changing demands of higher education.  Therefore, in the spirit of partnership and possibilities, we sought feedback from: Administrative Council, Center for Engaged Learning and Teaching, Faculty Senate, Faculty Technology Lab, Office of International Students and Scholars, Office of Risk Management, The Phyllis M. Taylor Center, Staff Advisory Council, and several others on ways that we could better manage our talent. The answer was unanimous – develop our people to expand Tulane’s impact!

As a result, I am thrilled to announce that the Office of Human Resources is in the process of establishing a Learning and Organizational Development unit. This team will be charged with providing holistic learning and development opportunities at all levels of the University.

Through structured leadership and professional development experiences, we intend to focus on enhancing competencies and behaviors needed to support University goals to provide impactful teaching, meaningful learning opportunities for students and research breakthroughs that change the world.  Together, we can create a more satisfying place to work with a renewed commitment to Tulane’s mission of creating, communicating and conserving knowledge in order to enrich the capacity of individuals, organizations and communities to think, learn, act, and lead with integrity and wisdom.

Just as individuals must play a role in shaping their own professional careers, organizations and leaders must provide opportunities for their employees to develop new skills and knowledge.  We strive to influence and positively impact the productivity and achievements across our community, recognizing that the faculty and staff of today will cultivate world-class learning experiences for the students of tomorrow.

As we begin the work of building this team, I encourage all employees to lend their support to this important initiative by answering the call to action when given an opportunity to help shape the strategy for our new training and leadership development programs.

I look forward to seeing all of you at a future training… let’s discover, learn, grow and LEAD together!

Stay tuned for more announcements.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shantay Bolton
Vice President of Human Resources
