During the COVID-19 situation, the University acknowledges that some international students may have
circumstances which prevent them to be on campus.

Eligibility to continue to receive a non-service stipend or a service stipend for graduate student TA/RA activities:

To be eligible, all students must:

1. Be enrolled as a TU student in courses, independent study, or dissertation/thesis credit.

2. Confirm that the department is offering the option for remote graduate student TA/RA activities for the position.

International students must meet the additional following criteria in order to have their case be considered:

1. The student must have a valid immigration record and continue to follow the requirements to maintain status throughout the fall semester.

a. Students enrolled as of Spring 2020:

  • All international students who were enrolled in spring at Tulane and will be continuing in fall already have a valid immigration record.

b. Students enrolled to begin in Fall 2020:

  • New international students in the US transferring from another institution can check in online to activate their immigration record. Transfer students located outside the US will have their immigration record deferred until January 2021 and cannot receive a service stipend remotely. Transfer students located outside the US with US bank accounts can receive non-service stipends and should complete the form below if they anticipate receiving a non-service stipend.
  • New international students who are not transferring their immigration record from another institution must enter the US and activate their immigration record in order to be eligible.
  • If a student wants to confirm that their record is active, they can email oiss@tulane.edu.

2. The student must have a US bank account. This is required to set up the direct deposit process and receive funds from the university.

Based on the above criteria, below are initial guidelines regarding international students and remote graduate student TA/RA activities.

1. New students without a valid immigration record may not apply to receive a service stipend. The only exception to this will be if you have (i) a valid immigration record by the start of the semester, (ii) a US bank account and (iii) you are approved to perform graduate student TA/RA activities outside of the US: complete this form.

2. Non-service stipends for new and continuing international students will be considered on a case-by-case basis and only if you have (i) a US bank account and (ii) complete this form.

3. Service stipends for continuing international students performing graduate student TA/GA activities abroad will considered on a case-by-case basis and only if you have (i) a valid immigration record now or by the start of the semester (ii) a US bank account and (iii) complete this form.
