Federal Work Study Program

Student filling out application at job fair

The purpose of the Federal Work Study (FWS) program is to provide opportunities for students to earn additional income to assist with paying for living and educational expenses. Students and universities participating in the FWS program are required to adhere to the rules and regulations established by the Department of Education that governs the program. Through the FWS program, students can work part-time while enrolled in school to help finance their college education.

  • FWS jobs are posted on Handshake with all other On-Campus student job opportunities. Students must apply and be hired in order to earn their work study funds.
  • All funds earned will be paid directly to the student, not applied to any remaining balance with the University.
  • Students can only earn up to their FWS award limit. The actual amount students receive will be based on hourly pay rate and number of hours worked.
  • To view only FWS positions: Select 'All Filters', then check the box labeled 'Work Study'. Tip: Try searching all 'On-Campus jobs' - you can still apply to jobs that don't require FWS.
  • The search, application, and hiring process for FWS jobs is the same as non-FWS jobs. Check out the Student Employment Guide to Finding an On-Campus Job for details.

Students can confirm their FWS award by visiting Gibson Online. Instructions can be found here. FWS awards are restricted to U.S. citizens only.
