Environmental Health and Safety Specialist II (OEHS)

Summary: Assist with establishing programs that aid federal, state, and local environmental health and safety compliance activities at Tulane University. Perform duties relative to laboratory safety. Responsible for day-to-day activities associated with picking up hazardous waste from labs as well categorizing the waste and bulking chemical waste when necessary.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Coursework in biological sciences, chemistry, environmental health sciences, engineering, toxicology, occupational safety and health, or related sciences.
  • Demonstrated experience with chemical management, chemical compatibility, safety chemical use and storage.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, consensus standards and guidelines. These may include but are not limited to regulations and guidelines from OSHA, EPA, DEQ, DHH, ADA, DHS, NFPA, DOT, ANSI, AAALAC, CDC, and NIH.
  • Knowledge and/or the ability to learn to operate sampling or analytical equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory processes related to biomedical research and laboratory waste management.
  • Ability to recognize and work with technical chemical nomenclature and formulas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet/database, and presentation software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and analytical skills, plus the ability to exercise discretion, make independent judgment decisions, and handle emergency situations.
  • On call availability and willingness to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • High emotional IQ and ability to effectively manage compliance expectations.

Manager.Human Resources Information Systems

Summary: The HRIS Manager is the product owner and subject-matter-expert for human resources systems.  This position oversees the HRIS operations and staff in the selection, build, testing, implementation, and administration of HR technology solutions and integrations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of software development and support methodologies; working knowledge of relational databases and complex data structure.
  • Ability to establish, document, and maintain procedures and processes; proven proficiency in the preparation and maintenance of software documentation and test scripts.
  • Displays a thorough understanding of essential business functions and the ability to translate business requirements into system configurations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technically complex concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical users.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to provide leadership in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Strong functional knowledge of the various HR functions such as HR, benefits, payroll and recruiting.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Access.

Assistant Radiation Safety Officer (OEHS)

Summary: This position is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Tulane University (TU) Radiation Safety Program. Perform duties relating to radiation safety issues as needed on the Uptown Campus, Downtown Campus and at the Tulane National Primate Research Center. The Assistant Radiation Safety Officer will act as the Laser Safety Officer for all campuses.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of current regulations related to a radiation safety program.
  • Must be able to get Laser Safety Officer certification within 24 months of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to pass part 1 of the Certified Health Physicist exam within 24 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of standard operational health physics theories, principles and practices.
  • Experience using survey meters and counting equipment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet/database, and presentation software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and analytical skills, plus the ability to exercise discretion, make independent judgment decisions, and handle emergency situations.

Power Plant Mechanic, Facilities Services - Plant Operations

Provides all maintenance, installation and repair activities of Plant Operations for the medical school complex

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Capable of receiving and giving oral, written and diagramed instructions
  • Must have mechanical skills and aptitude
  • Must have ability to think and act quickly in emergencies
  • Must have ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Must have experience in electricity, pneumatics, plumbing, piping and sheet metal
