Career Band and Salary Structure Enhancements
Tulane’s new staff compensation structures and career bands were introduced in July 2018. As previously noted during the rollout, career bands were introduced to:
- provide a systematic approach to evaluating jobs based on progressive levels of contribution
- each career level is linked to a newly established range of pay for each job, which includes a minimum, midpoint and maximum pay rate
- each job is linked to a career band and level with corresponding pay range determined by the type of role, contribution, complexity and responsibility
The salary structures and career bands have been in effect for several months now. As part of HR’s continuous improvement process, we recognized the opportunity to enhance the career bands and new salary structures.
The following enhancements to the Management Career Band and Salary Ranges will be effective January 1, 2019:
- elimination of the gap between Management Career Band Levels I and 2
- addition of Management Career Band Level 5
- addition of 25th and 75th percentiles within the staff compensation structures

These enhancements will allow for more accurate assignments and ease of career movement within the Management Career Band. Closing the management career band gap and adding level 5 will allow Tulane to maintain market competitiveness of the pay ranges.
For those positions which will experience a career band level change as a result of these enhancements, communication will be sent to the employee and manager with instructions on how to view the change. It is important to note that as a result of this change, there is no impact to budget or any paygrade changes.
