Biography

Wendy Firven Smith currently serves in the role of Conflict Resolution Specialist with the Tulane University Office of Institutional Equity. She comes to Tulane as a former Adjunct Instructor and Career Counselor with over 8 years of experience in the higher education setting. She holds a master’s degree in Community Counseling from Minnesota State University and a bachelor’s in Psychology from Southern University at New Orleans. Wendy’s notable experience in mediation include - State Certified Mediator, Senior Professional Mediator, Intake Coordinator and Certified Mediator Coach.

She has over five years of experience mediating civilian/police complaint cases and facilitating Police Academy trainings for NOPD supervisors on active listening, conflict resolution, and mediation skills. She is also the Founding Director of Resolve Mediation Group, a community mediation service that provides affordable mediation to resolve conflict and disputes in the community.

Wendy is passionate about expanding restorative practices throughout the City of New Orleans. Now as a member of the Tulane community, she is excited to bring her experience, commitment, and vigor to help Tulane employees improve communication, build relationships, and develop solutions to create peace and well-being.

When she’s not working, you can find Wendy organizing with youth locally and abroad or spending time with family and friends.
